Important Chicago Vaccine Updates: United Center Site, New In-Home Vaccination Program

Today, we have important updates about Covid-19 vaccinations in the City of Chicago:
- A new in-home vaccination program will be rolling out and
- New vaccine opportunities will become available at the United Center mega site
United Center Vaccine Site:
The new United Center vaccination site will open on March 9. This site is using vaccines supplied from the federal stockpile and thus eligibility will follow the state’s phase plan. However, starting 8:30 am on March 4th, registration opportunities will be strictly limited to seniors 65 and over. This registration window for seniors will last until March 7th at 4:30pm. After that, all who are eligible under the State’s 1b plan can make appointment at United Center, including people with disabilities.
**Bear in mind that while this site expects to be able to vaccinate thousands of people a day, the demand for slots is very high and patience may be necessary.**
Survey Open for Chicago In-Home Vaccination:
The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) is rolling out a new vaccine initiative for people who have a difficult time leaving home. The initiative will at first focus on seniors age 65+ who live in the Protect Chicago Plus focus neighborhoods. Eventually, the City hopes to expand beyond this group and eventually include people with disabilities under age 65. The City expects that people with disabilities under 65 will be eligible for a vaccine in Phase 1C, which starts March 29.
The plan is for the in-home vaccines to be administered by paramedics from the Chicago Fire Department. Those who live with an eligible senior, and/or their caregivers, would be offered vaccination at the same time. These in-home vaccinations are expected to begin March 4, with a small volume at first, and then expanding.
Eligible Chicagoans interested in the in-home vaccine opportunity need to fill out this HIPAA-protected online form. You can also have a trusted person fill it out for you. As the program is very new, they are only offering the form online, and not by phone, at this time. After completing the form, eligible registrants would be contacted about a vaccine opportunity by email.
Again, the current priority is for seniors age 65 and over in Protect Chicago Plus neighborhoods. Protect Chicago Plus neighborhoods are: West Englewood, Gage Park, North Lawndale, Chicago Lawn, Englewood, Roseland, Archer Heights, Washington Heights, Austin, Montclare, South Deering, Belmont Cragin, Humboldt Park, Little Village, and Back of the Yards.
