Community Organizing Training Program for People with Disabilities

Apply for Building Our Power Together – Construyendo Poder Juntos

Are you a person with a disability who is new to community organizing? Would you like to be part of Access Living’s Chicago disability rights and disability justice organizing work? Then, the Building Our Power Together training is for you!

Building Our Power Together is meant for both experienced and new disability advocates to learn and hone the basics of community organizing, all through the lens of disability.

Program Overview:

  • Learn about Access Living’s community organizing in Chicago, and get to know Access Living’s community organizing team.
  • Students meet two to three times a week for five weeks. Each week builds on the knowledge from the week before.
  • Seating is limited: The maximum class size is 20 students.
  • Cost: None. This is a free program.
  • Upon graduating, students join one or more of Access Living’s community organizing groups.
  • People with all kinds of disabilities are welcome to apply!

Application Process

  1. Applicants should fill out and submit their applications by 5pm on Friday, February 18.
  2. All applications are reviewed by Access Living staff.
  3. Access Living staff reaches out to potential participants to conduct a short interview.
  4. Final participants (20 total) are selected and notified by Friday, March 18.
  5. Class begins on Monday, April 18.
