Chicago Events celebrating Juneteenth in 2023

1. Don’t miss the 2023 Accessible Juneteenth Celebration!

Chicagoland Disabled People of Color Coalition, UIC Disability Cultural Center, Access Living, the Chicago Disability Pride Parade, and the Institute on Disability and Human Development will host the third annual Accessible Juneteenth celebration. The event is also sponsored by Whole Foods through a grant.

This year, we will have a DJ who will bless us with music fit for our Accessible Juneteenth celebration. There will be food, giveaways, and resources given out by vendors also, including from Black-owned and disability-owned/friendly organizations and businesses.

We will host an open-mic where you can share your talents in singing, spoken-word, playing instruments, and more!

2. Bronzeville’s 2023 Juneteenth Celebration

This village themed family friendly celebration will offer live entertainment for both adults and youth alike. Local historians, visual and performing artists, crafters, as well as others from the Chicago land area will come to together to showcase their creative art depictions, share stories, and entertain attendees for this two-fold event to safely celebrate its significance of keeping the memory of emancipation for African Americans and the price of freedom for all Americans through American history in the forefront of our minds.

3. Juneteenth Family Festival 2023

The Beverly/Morgan Park Juneteenth Family Festival aims to honor our ancestors, celebrate African and African-American cultural heritage, unite our diverse community, and connect Chicago residents with resources and services.

5. Thank You, Chicago

The Juneteenth Market is a pop up market celebrating black business in Chicago. It will take place on Monday June 19th at the Promontory in Hyde Park.The marketplace will feature various business and industries from beauty to fashion. Food vendors will be on site.

7. The 1865 Juneteenth Fest 2023

The 1865 Coalition is a collaboration of community organizations, residents, stakeholders, law enforcement, educational institutions, elected officials, local businesses, and churches who collectively have come together to host a three day “Juneteenth” celebration in Garfield Park called the “1865 Fest”

8. The Du’s 3rd Annual Juneteenth Community BBQ

To commemorate Juneteenth, Black people would gather for community celebrations with food, song, and dance. In the spirit of the rich legacy our ancestors have left us, for the third year in a row (since Juneteenth was declared an official holiday in 2021) The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center is proud to bring back our community Juneteenth Festival.

Juneteenth Celebration in North Center

The event, open to the entire community, will feature entertainment, food, and a marketplace with vendors selling products and services. There will also be interactive activities including hair braiding, dance lessons, double dutch, horseback riding, sword play, yo-yo, and more! Highlighting Black-owned businesses and providing activities for all ages, this event is sure to be a fun afternoon for the whole family. Supported by 47th Ward Alderman Matt Martin, along with State Rep Ann Williams, Senator Sara Feigenholtz, and several local businesses.
