Webinar: Disability and Palliative Care

February 20, 2023 | by Amber Smock

Join Access Living, the HAP Foundation, for a Webinar on Disability and Palliative Care

11am-12pm on Monday, February 27

One of the most important issues in healthcare, and one of the least discussed, is the role of palliative and hospice care. Check out the below event and share with interested people.

Palliative Care and Disability Webinar: Enhancing Quality of Life

Join Access Living and The HAP Foundation for a webinar on the topic of palliative care and people with disabilities. The webinar will be on February 27 from 11am-12pm Central. Registration is required. This event will have captioning, ASL, and a phone option for Spanish translation.

What is palliative care? Palliative care is specialized medical care for those living with serious medical conditions, such as cancer.  Palliative care is meant to enhance a person’s current care by focusing on quality of life for them and their family.

End of life issues are a sensitive and personal topic. While stories about physician assisted suicide regularly appear in mainstream press, historically there has been less focus on the benefits of palliative care and hospice as safer, gentler options for end of life support.

We will be joined by Sara Dado and Maureen Burns from The HAP Foundation for a conversation about the value of palliative care. One of the goals of The HAP Foundation is to empower individuals to make informed choices, and give them a connection to resources that strengthen the continuity of care through the end of life.

This is the first of two Access Living webinars centered around measures to enhance quality of life of those nearing the end of life, without taking drastic measures. The second webinar will take place in March and we will be discussing the dangers of physician assisted suicide for people with disabilities. If you have additional questions or disability accommodation requests, please contact Ryan McGraw at rmcgraw@accessliving.org or 312-640-2125.
