The intersection of racial justice and disability
Racial justice issues coupled with disability impact people throughout Chicago and the United States. Access Living’s community organizing group Advance Your Leadership Power (AYLP) is exploring ways to best support our community members in this area.
For the past several years, AYLP has been working on the Community Emergency Services and Support Act, also known as CESSA. Signed into law in August of 2021, CESSA is a new Illinois bill that will create a mobile, non-police response for mental and behavioral health emergencies. Learn more about CESSA here.
