Low Spoon Activism Gathering

Event Series Event Series (See All)

December 14, 2023 @ 1:00 PM 2:00 PM

Black text on a light yellow background. Text reads "Low Spoon Activism Gathering (Virtual). Saturday, December 14th, 1:00-2:00pm and 4:00-5:00pm." To the right of the text, there is an illustration of a raised fist. A red banner underneath includes the phrase Human Rights. Corners of the image are decorated with illustrations of leaves. Along the bottom of the image are the logos for the event sponsors.

To honor the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on December 3rd, Art and Culture Project joins the Disability Culture Activism Lab (DCAL) and Art Therapy Collective in hosting four art workshops this December, including the virtual Low Spoon Activism Gathering.

As we enter the last month of 2023, let’s take a moment to pause, breathe, reflect and nurture ourselves as a community. Facilitators will provide prompts for attendees. The goal is for participants to create tangible actions as they reflect on disability justice issues through art making and dialogues.

Low Spoon Activism Gathering: The art of doing nothing is also about doing everything (Virtual)

Does going to rallies and street protests with unmasked protesters feel unsafe, too stimulating, overwhelming or exhausting for your bodymind? Unable to make a public political stance due to precarious immigration statuses or other personal reasons? You are not alone!

Activism comes in many forms. The Low Spoon Activism Gathering is an anti-capitalist and anti-ableist space for attendees to share creative ways to practice activism. Let’s meet up from your couch, bed or on the floor in your own home. We encourage participants to join the Zoom with a pillow, blanket, and your favorite snack/beverage. The facilitators will make collage with magazine clippings or digital art. Feel free to join us with the art/craft materials of your choice.

Zoom link will be provided after signing up.
